Lady Death Tarot: The Reaper’s Path Unveils a Bold New Major Arcana Cover Series

Mesa, AZ - Coffin Comics announces The Lady Death Tarot Major Arcana: The Reaper’s Path, a captivating new monthly cover series beginning in April 2026 that explores all twenty-two cards of the Major Arcana through Lady Death’s mythic journey. Illustrated by Richard Ortiz, colored by Ivan Nunes, and featuring back cover Major Arcana text by Brian Pulido, each issue’s cover shows a self-contained scene—an iconic archetype reimagined with dark fantasy power.

Rooted in The Fool’s Journey but reimagined as a quest for self-determination, the series brings the tarot's timeless symbols to life without a guidebook: the art expresses meaning through visual cues, mythic symbolism, and character-driven storytelling. Together, the covers create a narrative arc of vengeance, sovereignty, and defiance of cosmic fate—encouraging readers to not only observe Lady Death’s path but also reflect on their own.

“The Lady Death Tarot Major Arcana is a mythic road map—and Lady Death is rewriting the route in blood and vengeance,” says Coffin Comics publisher Brian Pulido. “Richard Ortiz and Ivan Nunes are crafting career-defining artwork in their twenty-two-month series, which is expected to run until February 2028.”

Each card tells a story. Each cover reveals something new. The Reaper’s Path is tarot as epic dark art—where destiny is tested, and every turn of the card challenges fate itself.

Editions offered include prestige and naughty editions, enhanced, limited, and serially numbered editions, as well as metallic cards and prints.

February 2, Mt. Laurel, NJ: Dynamite Entertainment and Coffin Comics are beyond thrilled to announce the start of a historic co-publishing agreement, set to offer fans the ultimate collaboration and releases many have been waiting on for years.

 Following the surprise in-person announcement at Swornfest 2026 in Mesa, Arizona, this past weekend, the news is now being shared widely. After extensive meetings and planning between Dynamite's Nick Barrucci and Coffin's Brian Pulido, the full cast of characters and world of the original Chaos! Comics line will be reunited for limited-time reprint collections and merchandise, available through multiple channels, including direct-to-consumer crowdfunding campaigns and the direct market.

It all kicks off soon with a massive Kickstarter showcasing the character that began it all — Evil Ernie! In a projected three-volume set, all of the beloved original misadventures of the Evil One will be collected comprehensively for the first time ever. Presented in multiple formats, the books will amount to well over 1,500 pages. Each edition will feature a unique cover. Smiley, the Psychotic Button's specials and solo stories will also be included in this set, while other superstars, including Lady Death, Purgatori, and Chastity will have appearances. Key storylines, including Youth Gone Wild, The Resurrection, Revenge, Straight to Hell, Destroyer, and more, will be presented in these can't-miss tomes.

 Future Kickstarter campaigns will focus on Lady Death, Purgatori, Chastity, and the Coffin universe.

 As further details are confirmed, Dynamite and Coffin will keep fans up to date on book contents, formats, pricing, and launch dates. Other goodies projected to be offered include limited-edition issue reprints with epic enhancements, like metal or glow-in-the-dark effects, on top of all-new artwork from top names. A trading card set is being considered for parallel development. Posters, prints, T-shirts, patches, and challenge coins are planned.

"Brian [Pulido] and I go back over 30 years, as two hardworking and strong-willed young guns in the industry back in the 1990s," said Nick Barrucci, Dynamite CEO and Publisher. "His energy is unmatched in this medium, and was always one of the most fun folks to work with in the early eras of Dynamic Forces. Chaos! was always about rebellion and bringing electrifying art and ideas to the page. Bringing this boundary-pushing art back to print has been a major goal. Most importantly, this is something fans have wanted to see, and this reunion feels so good!"

Pulido himself shared, "Bringing the classic era stories to life in the Chaos! Library series is a dream come true. A year ago, this wasn’t even on the horizon, but now I'm immersed in over 6,000 pages of story and art I helped create, write, and publish. I gotta tell ya, this stuff is over-the-top, unapologetic, and ready to kick your ass! So, let’s get ready to descend into Where Darkness Dwells and ride the lightning together! I’m excited to be part of this ambitious series of crowdfunding campaigns that will showcase all of the 90s Chaos! Comics stories in new and exciting ways, sure to thrill both new and longtime fans."

Brian's partner in life and comics, and President of Coffin, Francisca Pulido added, "The 90s were an explosive time in comics and Chaos! Comics were at the forefront. Brian and his collaborators created characters so deeply loved by his fan base that the memories and excitement of that time endure today. What most people don’t realize is that Evil Ernie, Purgatory, Chasity, and the rest weren’t just comic-book characters Brian created; they were like family to us, and we love them deeply. I’m so excited that Dynamite and Brian are teaming up to bring back the original Chaos! Comics in omnibus formats. Fans will be able to relive those amazing memories, and for me, I get to hold the children again."

The thrill ride mythos of Chaos! began in 1991 with the debut of Evil Ernie created by writer Brian Pulido and brought to life by the late great Steven Hughes. A couple years later, the scope and success of the effort expanded with the founding of a separate publisher and a string of new characters and titles including Lady Death, Purgatori, Chastity, Jade, Bad Kitty, Lady Demon, and many more. Pulido was revered by fans for his dark, pulse-pounding storytelling, great collaborative eye for artists, and unparalleled engagement with fans, aka the "Fiends."

Steven Hughes established the iconic look for many of the Chaos! mainstays. His detail-oriented, moody artwork matched both Ernie's edgy verve and the innovative "bad girl" trend, which featured Lady Death at the forefront. His visual blueprint laid the groundwork for countless creators who have tackled the characters to this day, including Ed Benes, Mike Deodato, Al Rio, Jim Balent, Ivan Reis, and countless others.

The Chaos! library outside of Lady Death was acquired by Dynamite Entertainment in 2010 and has featured in several best-selling comics and crossovers. Industry icons like Tim Seeley and Mirka Andolfo have contributed to the evolving characters, and they've crossed paths with Vampirella, Red Sonja, Hack/Slash, and more.

Pulido continues his tales of Lady Death and his reputation of connecting directly with “Sworn Nation” to this day through Coffin Comics. New characters, including La Muerta, Lady Satanus and Hellwitch, have wowed, and a new era of fans and creators keeps the energy alive with record-smashing Kickstarters and conventions.
